Thirthy-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Not a hair of your head will perish.”

I love this sentence. It reminds me how complex our God-given lives really are.

Physically, looking at the top of my head, it is clearly not true. However, spiritually I believe it is.

Physically, with the passing of time, we weaken, become infirm and eventually die.

Spiritually, we can keep growing, developing, coming closer to God for more of the time and thus – not only give glory to God – but also delight in life.

As we approach the end of this Liturgical Year and will soon be in Advent, why not take a look at – and perhaps discuss with your nearest and dearest - the PIES of your life.

Physically, are you doing your best? Diet, sleep and those 7,000 steps a day can keep you keeping on in fine fettle for longer.

Intellectually, what are you reading? Spiritual books, lives of saints, can enlighten – make lighter – your mind by off-setting the grim news that the various media channels throw at us.

Emotionally, are there friends with whom you could re-connect or see more frequently. Love, being appreciated, I find, boosts my energy.

Spiritually,  how is your relationship with God? Walking arm in arm with God banishes loneliness and enriches my life no end.
