still working to help God make this World a better place
“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Today, we come to the last week in this Liturgical Year. Advent starts next Sunday.
It seems to me that, giving every human freedom to decide how to live their lives, Jesus Christ is somewhat like our constitutional monarch, who "reigns but do not rule" within our hearts. My life is ruled by The Cabinet of intellect, will and conscience.
Our Creator God rules the evolution of the universe, from its birth with the Big Bang, some 13.8 billion years ago, to its current size of 93 billion light-years across, which is one hundred sextillion: 1 followed by 23 zeros. Quite a Kingdom!!!
If you can, try to find a cloudless night with no light pollution – as I experienced many times in north west Scotland - and see the immense number of stars – you will praise God.
Yet, because God if infinite, The Blessed Trinity relates to each one of us as though we were the only person alive: with full attention to our welfare. Even on earth, with its population of some 8.2 billion people, we are individually precious in the eyes of God.
In the UK and indeed the Commonwealth, though most honours are awarded by the Monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister, The Royal Victorian Order and the Order of the Garter are personal gifts from the Sovereign.
The Honour Jesus Christ awards each one of us – if our lives have made us Capax Dei, capable of life with God - is the honour of living close with our Creator in timeless eternity; Paradise.
Meanwhile, here on earth, as in William Blake's "Auguries of Innocence", it is life enhancing
"To see a World in aGrain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour"
Or even, in a short homily.
