First Sunday of Advent

“Stay awake”

The Blessed Trinity- our Creator - is with us constantly – just like gravity.

However, occasionally Jesus Christ wants to enter into our lives and to notice that, we need to stay awake; to be sensitive to a nudge God might be giving you across the PIES: the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual dimensions of our life.

Some ten days ago, I learned that International Men’s Day, Wed, 19 Nov 2025, wasn’t just a date. It was a reminder that 82 men die by suicide every week in the UK.

So, physically, keep an eye on how especially your male  - who are less likely to express their true feelings -  friends and allies-in-life look, their health – and see if can help.

Intellectually, are they looking concerned? Worried? Make it clear you would be happy to listen to and discuss their issues.

Emotionally: are they less happy than their usual self? Ask how their friends, including their family are getting on.

Spiritually, how hopeful are their attitudes – and comments – on life?

I aim to be like I imagine Jesus Christ would be if he was in my shoes and skin.

When I fail – and that is quite often – I apologise to God and try to learn to be better.

Years ago, my homilies tended to be lengthy. Now, thanks to the lessons my ministry has taught me, you know they are no longer long. Thank God.
