still working to help God make this World a better place
“Each tree is known by its fruit” – not by shape, colour size or leaves.
This whole passage reminds us that – well me – that one's true nature is revealed through their deeds, not just their words.
Actions speak louder than words. Or, as an Arabian Proverb puts it, “a promise is a cloud; fulfilment is rain.”
The fruits of the Holy Spirit - as set out by St Paul in his letter to the Galatians (5:22) - are the virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
How fine - and practical - is your love of the SONG of life: your Self, Others, Nature and God?
Does your joy percolate out into the world – so that you do look redeemed?
Even in this world of ours today, is your heart at peace?
How short is your patience? As long as a piece of string?
I love St Theresa of Avila’s prayer: “Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you, everything passes, God does not change, patience overcomes everything.”
I know you - all of you here - are kind and good and faithful.
How about gentleness and self-control?
I use my vices of pride and vanity to control myself. It tends to work. Thanks to these weaknesses, I can stop talking. You will – maybe silently – say. ‘thank God!’
