still working to help God make this World a better place
“My sheep will never perish”
Today we have four young people who will be receiving their first holy communion.
Barney, Archie, Alexandra and Nicolas. Congratulations!
Faith sees what – and who - there was and is. Charity loves what – and who - there is but hope loves what – and who - there will be.
We will fall. But we can get up. God’s love does not depend on our behaviour. Hope – like God - is always there. Clouds – our mistakes – can hide the sun but they do not destroy that sun.
Like gravity, God is everywhere, Gravity does not shout. Nor does God.
We are created for eternity. Our relationship with God – our soul – is always there; no matter how old we may be and feel. And I am 86, just.
Holy communion is the food for eternal life.
I remember just before my own first holy communion asking the curate, Fr Tanner, at the Putney Church of St Simon Stock - as it was called in 1946, how often should I receive holy communion. His reply stuck in my mind. “If every time you went to holy communion and you were given £10 – we were in 1946 when I was seven! And a pint of milk cost 3 pence – how often would you go.?” I said “Everyday” and so I went.
To nourish our bodies, we need healthy food and drink. To nourish our soul – our relationship with God – Holy Communion is a wonderful part of our diet as God comes into our heart.
As soon as that Host comes into your mouth, tell Jesus you love him. And pray those TAPS: Thanking, Asking, Praising and Saying sorry. Delighting in his forgiveness and love.
