“This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.” In case you do not know, ‘Beloved’ in Hebrew, is David.
You may not know why a German make of car is called Audi. It is due the surname of its founder, August Horch. He could not use his name “Horch“, German for "listen", but thanks to his son who was revising Latin it became “Audi”.
Every time you see an Audi, let it remind you to listen - to Jesus, Christ.
Remember that Jesus speaks to us not only through the Gospels – and indeed the whole of Sacred Scripture – but also the teaching of The Church, our conscience, the events we encounter in our life and what our friends say to us. Everyone can teach us something.
Jesus asks us to help him make this world a better place - but he also thanks us and supports us. Whenever I am invited to a meal, or drink – or even a stay-over – I thank God for looking after me.
Jesus was a popular guest. (Lk 14,1) So must not have been at all gloomy.
Jesus had a sense the humour. When Jesus called Simon son of John ‘Cephas’ - the Rock, Peter, it was like Robin Hood calling the 7-foot John, 'Little John’. In 1 Cor 1,27 we read that God chooses weak to confound the strong.
Jesus used specific examples to teach universal values. Imagine His facial expression, shrug of shoulders, wave of arm.
“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, to God what is God’s” (Mt 22,21) Live the virtue of justice.
“Blind leading the blind” (Mt 15,14) Choose your mentors – advisors – wisely.
I try to keep my intellectual eyes open by listening to Jesus Christ in my conscience and prayer. It seems you can see that.
