Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

“He who baptises with the Holy Spirit”

Refers to Jesus Christ, thanks to whom, Pentecost took place and his followers experienced the effects of The Holy Spirit; and got rolling  the Church, whose members would eventually be called Christians in the city of Antioch, in ancient Syria (modern-day Turkey), (Acts 11:26).

As a river has three elements : banks, water and current - so, though God is one, the divinity seems to have three persons – father, son and holy spirit, with three functions: Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.

Once Jesus had to ascended into heaven, The Father sent us the Holy Spirit,  the "Paraclete," Helper, Motivator, and Friend who is with us to help us (John 14:15-17).

The Holy Spirit enriches our perception through the gift of faith which gives us  hope and love. For me, The Holy Spirit is the trans-temporal Jesus: God with me throughout time.

Every time I meet someone new, I silently  pray ‘namaste’, “I bow to you.”, acknowledging the divine presence within each person. Remember Jesus said that “what you do to the least of mine, you do unto me.” ?

In the letter to the Galatians (5,22-23), we read that the ‘fruits of the Holy Spirit’ are love, joy, peace, patience (or forbearance), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If you have these, thank God. Be grateful. See how you can develop them.

It is all too easy to take the gifts we have for granted. Often, it is only when we have an accident and can’t move, we appreciate the  gift of health and mobility. I thank God for my eyesight – not only physical but spiritual. Some people are colour-blind, some are creator/God blind. I thank God I am not.

Thanks to the Holy Spirit, I know Yesh is with me - as He is with you -  throughout each day and night. Thank God for that.
