“On this rock, I will build my church”
I – not you will build MY church.
My - not your Church. We are just the instruments, the hands of God.
Calling Simon, “Kepa, (Greek Cephas, Latin Petrus), is like Robin Hood calling the seven foot giant “Little John”.
I believe Jesus chose the weak to make it clear that when the Church developed – as it did after Pentecost - it was through God’s power, the Holy Spirit - rather than human efforts.
Though these were required.
Just think of the journeys St Paul made, how many miles he travelled and how many words he used - in preaching and writing - to enable Christianity to develop.
Your children – as my communities – are Catholic Christians thanks to your and my commitments to God. It is an honour to be chosen by God as his incarnated presence in the 20th and 21st centuries.
I don’t know about you, but realising that I am doing God’s work – not my own - boosts my morale and gives me energy and sustains my hope.
“What you do to the least of mine, you do unto me.” Jesus said. The divine is in each one of us both as distribuends and recipients of God’s graces.
In his first letter to the Corinthians, (1Cor 1,27) St Paul made it clear that God “has chosen the weak of the world to shame the mighty”. So being weak is fine, as long as we do our best.
