Georgie and Marco Wedding Homily

A wee reminder to Georgie and Marco – and the rest of this glorious congregation.

As you know,  marriage is a sacrament in which  God – who is love – becomes an outward sign of an inward grace or gift.

Love – to be real – has to be there across the PIES

P, the physical includes – not just the exciting - but tidying things up.

I, the Intellectual should always be ACE, Affirming Consoling and Encouraging. Never negatively critical.

E, the Emotional: As Father, Son, Holy Spirit, so husband, wife and family are bonded by love into a warm unity.

Equality! It is a merger NOT an acquisition.

Appreciate AND respect the other. 

Mutual gift of husband and wife.

I – you – become a We. Ubuntu. Good – even excellent – for both.

S, the Spiritual. Wed to make the other joyful. 

                Forgive:  wash white, not whitewash.

                NEVER “That was 15 years ago” “Yes, but you did it.”

Problem?  Seek Solution in prayer and with genuine – positive – friends!

Rely on community – friends’ – cohesive – support.

Imperfect? Of course. You are human. “Better together than apart”

Resilience. “Falling down is not as important as getting up. Growing wiser.

Gentle with the other’s dreams.

Humour – vital adhesive!

I will end with, “Darling, if you ever left me, could I come with you?”
