Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“A prophet is only despised in his own country among his own relations and in his own house.”

Creation is God's country, his own home. Familiarity breeds superficiality. We take so much for granted.

How about your TAPS on creation?

Thank God for how we started out life in space-time! For the first 12 hours after conception our fertilised egg remained a single cell  after 3 days that fertilized egg became 16 cells.

Now, here we are. Our body working more or less efficiently and comfortably. We are – if  male-  around 36 trillion cells, if female around  28 trillion. As a 10-year-old, we were 17 trillion. That is 17 followed by 12 zeros.

Think of your eyes, your ears… God is a creative genius. So many – all too often - take for granted.  How intelligent folk assume all this perfectly structured life happened by unguided evolution shows how blind to the facts they can be.

Ask God that we might admire his creativity – and thus delight more deeply in life.

Praise God for his masterpieces of humanity and the flora and fauna of our planet. 

Say sorry for - occasionally, perhaps - not looking after our bodies. Apologise and become better custodians of all there is.

Your body - everybody’s body - is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6,19). “What you do to the least of mine, you do unto me” is a subtitle in my mind (Mt 25,40). So, you may have noticed how I try to look after you and your spiritual lives – and Christ, who is therein.
