“The Kingdom of God – the state of divine love - is like a mustard seed”
Globally– starting tiny, developing enormously; and personally.
Globally, at the First Pentecost, perhaps 18 were there. Now there are 2.4 billion Christians, and Christianity is the primary religion practiced throughout the Americas, Europe, Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa.
Personally, at our baptism The Kingdom of God in our hearts was embryonic. Now? How much of your life does it control? I ask myself, “Am I trying to do God’s will?” Though we never become perfect – as a ship sailing towards the horizon never reaches it, we can
improve. Remember the “Good better best, never let them rest, until your good is better and your better best.”
I strive to be open to God so as to become more united with the divine. I try to “prepare a way for The Lord.” (Lk 3,4, quoting Is 40, 3) by spiritual reading, prayer and the sacraments: as here at Mass.
As I tell young people when preparing them for their First Holy Communion, when we make those three crosses before the Gospel, we are saying “May God bless my thinking, my communicating and my loving. In other words, “May I think more like Christ, communicate
more like Christ and love more like Christ: generously for the benefit of those in my neighbourhood.
For me God’s will was disclosed when Marina said this chapel needed a priest. So here I am, doing God’s will. Keeping my homilies short.
