“Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified has risen.”
And on three occasions Jesus had raised people from the dead. In Matthew we read how Jesus raised a ruler's daughter (Matt 9:23–25); in Luke’s Gospel, how Jesus raised a widow's son (Luke 7:11–17) and in John’s gospel, how Jesus raised his friend Lazarus (John 11:38–44).
Public – undeniable – death on the cross followed by, three days later – traditionally and probably - if He rose at 7.00am on Sunday morning - a very private resurrection forty hours after his death when The Blessed Trinity raised the human body of Jesus back to life.
Thus we have clear evidence that Jesus is – and thus must have been since his conception – God.
The first witness of the resurrection was Mary Magdalene, one of the women of Galilee who followed Jesus and His disciples, and who was present at His Crucifixion and Burial, and who had gone to the tomb on Easter Sunday to anoint His body.
To realise that the creator – the cause - of the Big Bang some 13.7 billion years ago was walking Galilee two thousand years ago – and is still with us at Mass in The Word, The Celebrant, Holy Communion and the Community – that is you, is breath-taking when we pause and think – rather that take it for granted as so many se easily do.
Thank God for Mass. Thank Jesus for letting us know of God’s presence with you, wherever you are. Thank God you are not divine-blind. Faith is a glorious gift. Thank God.
