The Holy Family
“the child grew to maturity.”
Jesus was fully human and thus had to learn across his PIES of life.
How to walk, talk, eat and wash - as well as do what we nowadays do in the bathroom.
Living with Mary and Joseph, he had wonderful role models.
He acquired the virtues we see him live in the gospels, an exciting role model for us.
Compassionate Mk 10,46-52
Courageous. Knowing what would happen in Jerusalem, despite Peter's attempt to prevent his passion, Jesus pressed on - through his passion and appalling death on to his resurrection- and our hope.
Encouraging, Mk5,22-43
Grateful. Jesus demonstrated that thankful spirit publicly through His words, prayer life, and attitude. Before meals, Jesus thanks His Father for the food (Mt 15:36). Before raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus begins by praying, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me” (Jn 11:41).
Honest. Jn 8,32
Merciful Jn 8,1-11
Patient. He had to be. The Apostles were slow learners. Jesus referred to James and John as "Boanerges" - "sons of thunder". A Gospel story relates how the brothers wanted to call down heavenly fire on an unhospitable Samaritan town, but Jesus rebuked them. My ways are not your ways…”
Prayerful. Mk 1,35. Lk23,34.
How about in this brand new year of 2024, you decide to spend more time each week in pondering his life, meditating and be inspired to become gradually more like Jesus.
